ELKTON — A top official for Old Dominion Electric Cooperative recently told Cecil County Council that construction of the $800 million Wildcat Point turbine expansion project is on schedule and should be open in June 2017.
“This expansion costs more in capital investment than Rock Springs, but it is adding more energy efficient turbines that will be able to produce 940 megawatts of electrical power,” Old Dominion Vice President Rick McWhorter said Tuesday.
The expansion is taking place at the company’s Rock Springs electrical generation facility in Conowingo. One of the differences between the two adjacent facilities is that the turbines at Old Dominion are not enclosed, but the new turbines at Wildcat Point will be.
